John Addison Hunt was born in 1869 in Beaver, Utah, to John Hunt and Louisa Barnes Pratt. In 1877 his father was called to help colonize Mormon settlements in Arizona and New Mexico. For the first year they lived in Savoya, New Mexico, and after that the family settled in Snowflake, Arizona when his father was called to be the Bishop of the Snowflake Ward.
